Grandma Stand

At a time when the lack of connection is epidemic, wise and witty grandmothers sit behind a lemonade-style stand, offering life lessons to passersby in NYC’s Central Park.

We see twenty diverse people, ranging in ages from ten to eighty-one, candidly and vulnerably share their feelings. After talking to a grandma, a well-known screenwriter said, “Just a little love, a little talking. She's speaking to my soul.”

The inspiration for the “Grandma Stand” came from Mike Matthews, who realized how important his grandma’s guidance was to him. He knew that she could help others as well, so he set up the “Grandma Stand”. Years later, he expanded it by involving volunteer grandmothers. It has become so popular that “Grandma Stands” are now opening in other states and countries.

Special thanks to Mike Matthews, founder of Grandma Stand
